EDUCATION:
D.J. Papadopoulos received his M.D. degree from the University of Athens in 1982. He received training at Emory University in Pediatrics from 1983-1986. In 1986, Dr. Papadopoulos was resident of the year for Emory University Residency Programs and as a consequence was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. From 1986 to 1989 he received training in Dermatology from Emory University. He went into private practice in the West Paces Ferry area of Atlanta from 1989 to 1992. In 1992 he elected to receive his training in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Surgery at the Scripps Clinic and Research foundation in La Jolla, California under the tutelage of Dr. Hubert Greenway, M.D.
TRAINING:
From 1994-2003, Dr. Papadopoulos served as the co-director of the Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Surgical division of the department of Dermatology at Emory University. During this time, Dr. Papadopoulos performed over 9,000 cases of Mohs Micrographic Surgery.
EXPERTISE:
Nationally and Internationally, Dr. Papadopoulos is a recognized figure in the field of Mohs Micrographic Surgery. He is responsible for the development of the myocuteaneous island pedicle flap for nasal tip reconstruction. Academically, Dr. Papadopoulos has authored or co-authored many articles on skin cancer surgery and reconstruction and has served as the editor of the Yearbook of Dermatologic Surgery in 1997 and 1998.
